The essence of M&E lies in the continuous assessment of project/program performance against defined goals, enabling organizations to identify gaps, measure success, and enhance their strategies based on evidence-based data. This course facilitated by the United States International University - Africa offers a thorough and practical understanding of M&E, designed to equip you with the expertise to make informed decisions that lead to real, measurable impact.

Whether you're a beginner venturing into the world of M&E, a program officer wanting to deepen your understanding, or a seasoned M&E practitioner seeking to expand your abilities with more advanced concepts, this course is designed for you. The structured program spans three distinct levels - beginner, intermediate, and advanced - each offering a unique blend of lectures, group work, presentations, and discussions in a highly interactive online environment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Beginner Phase (3 Saturdays) starting on 10th June, 2023

At the end of M&E for beginners’ phase, the participants will be able to:

• Describe the purpose and scope of M&E;

• Understand the fundamentals of Monitoring and Evaluation;

• Differentiate types of evaluations and understand when to use them;

• Develop context specific indicators to measure performance;

• Develop M&E plans and track performance;

• Develop conceptual, logical and results frameworks;

• Determine the kind of data to use in M&E;

• Understand how to use digital approaches in data collection.

Cost for 3 Saturdays: Kshs 35,000 or 300 USD per participant

Intermediate Phase (5 Saturdays) starting on 15h July, 2023

At the end of the intermediate phase the participants will be able to:

• Apply conceptual, logical and results frameworks in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning;

• Develop theory of change and understand different pathways to results;

• Modify M&E plan to accommodate program dynamics;

• Develop a learning Agenda in M&E context;

• Use learning and best practices to improve program and decision making;

• Disseminate Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) findings;

• Apply result based monitoring and evaluation philosophies;

• Analyze Data using MS Excel and SPSS.

Cost for 5 Saturdays: Kshs 45,000 or 400 USD per participant

Advanced Phase (8 Saturdays) starting on 1st July, 2023

After the Advanced M&E (Masterclass) phase, the participants will be able to:

• Critique theory of change and pathways to results;

• Link monitoring and impact evaluation philosophies;

• Design evaluations by use of impact evaluation methodologies;

• Use the results of evaluation to inform program design, implementation and evidence based decision making;

• Develop Evaluation questions using the OEDC – DAC criteria;

• Conduct evaluation with inadequate data;

• Redesign Evaluations to clarify cause and effect in programs;

• Use qualitative and Quantitative approaches for M&E – NVivo and SPSS- Inferential statistics;

• Develop proposals and conduct Multi-country and Multi-disciplinary evaluations.

Cost for 8 Saturdays: Kshs 150,000 or 1,500 USD per participant

METHODOLOGY

The workshop will be highly interactive and discussion-driven and will be delivered through a mix of short lectures, group work, individual and group presentations and discussions. The course will be conducted in English and offered online.

CERTIFICATION 

A certificate will be given at the end of every stage of the training.
