This is a competitive call targeting 35-40 early career African researchers or students, policy makers and program practitioners attending the 11th Africa Evidence Summit. Background The field of impact evaluation is rapidly evolving and has become an essential tool for researchers and policymakers to assess the effectiveness of development programs and interventions. Early career researchers play a crucial role in contributing to this field, and it is imperative that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct high-quality impact evaluations. In light of this need, the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA), in partnership with the Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa (NIERA) and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), is organizing a two-day Impact Evaluation Training for early career researchers on 17th and 18th June, 2023 from 9AM – 4PM in Nairobi, Kenya. This training aims to provide participants with an opportunity to learn and apply theories and practices of impact evaluation, enhance their understanding of qualitative and quantitative methods, and strengthen their ability to interpret evaluation findings. The training will be especially valuable to those interested in applying rigorous impact evaluation methods to influence policy and program design. Objective The primary objectives of the two-day training are to:
  • Pre-train early career researchers on the fundamentals of impact evaluation, including its purpose, scope, and application across sectors.
  • Introduce participants to qualitative and quantitative research methods used in impact evaluation and how to apply them in different contexts.
  • Provide hands-on experience in designing and implementing impact evaluations, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Foster a community of practice by enabling participants to build networks with peers during and after the training.
