About NIERA

The Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa (NIERA) is a professional network dedicated to advancing high quality impact evaluation and evidence-informed decision making in Africa. NIERA was founded in 2018 by alumni of the EASST Fellowship at UC Berkeley, bringing together leading African researchers committed to improving development outcomes. The network has recently transitioned into a Public Benefit Organization, registered in Kenya with 501(c)(3) status in the United States, formalizing its governance and expanding its capacity for impact.

Opportunity
NIERA is seeking independent, dynamic, and experienced professionals to join its inaugural Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and stewardship to a growing pan-African network committed to evidence-based research and policy influence.

Role of the Board
Board Members will:

  • Provide strategic direction and approve policies and plans;
  • Oversee fiduciary responsibilities and safeguard NIERA’s assets and reputation;
  • Appoint, support, and evaluate the Executive Director;
  • Ensure institutional sustainability, accountability, and impact;
  • Uphold high standards of ethics, integrity, and governance;
  • Support strategic resource mobilization.

Board Composition

  • Size: 7 members, including the Chair
  • Diversity: Geographic, gender, professional background (research, policy, academia, civil society, development practice, legal, finance or cross cutting areas)
  • Independence: Members must be free from conflicts of interest

Eligibility
Candidates should:

  • Demonstrate commitment to NIERA’s mission and values;
  • Possess recognized expertise or leadership experience in impact evaluation, research, policy, or related fields;
  • Bring strategic, governance, financial, legal, or resource mobilization skills;
  • Be able to dedicate sufficient time to Board duties;
  • Meet high ethical and integrity standards.

Term of Office

  • Three (3) years, renewable once;
  • Staggered terms to ensure continuity;
  • Chair appointed from among Board Members.
